My husband and I love our new home. We now live on 10 acres out in the country. I get to have my horse at home and we have peace and quiet. I'm trying to be a bow hunter so it's nice to bale to hunt on our property as well. However, we are realizing that we have a lot of expenses that seem to be coming up and they are really stretching our budget. So we are taking action! We are enrolled in Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Class. We are familiar with his work and know that we need to pay off all our debt. One way to do that is reduce monthly expenses. After going over our budget we figured out places to make some cuts. One of my concessions is my CrossFit membership. I pay $120 a month to go three times a week. That's a lot of money! I'm having a really hard giving it up but I think I have come up with a solution.
My Plan:
Buy a 10 visit punch card to my CF box for $100
Go once a week so my card will last for 2 1/2 months
Work out at home/a cheaper Gym (probably the YMCA with my husband)
Sigh...I feel like this is a good compromise and so does my husband. But I'm going to miss seeing my CF peeps all the time. At least I still get my fix. This week I’m planning on doing a little scouting out of other gyms. The YMCA is a good choice and not too expensive. However, I know they don’t have all the weights that I want. They also don’t have bumper plates that can be dropped.
So I've got 3-4 other gyms that I will look at and see if it might be a good match.
Another thing I'm really wanting to do is to work out at home a little bit. We have a big shop that is perfect for doing WODs in. I took the first step and marked out some running distances on Monday night: 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m. I have an Ab Mat, foam roller, a big green rubber band, and a yoga mat. There is also a bunch of heavy stuff around the property that can be put in a wheel barrel or thrown over a shoulder. Hummmm...I think it might be quite fun to get creative about my WODs. Country Girl Fit, FarmFit, HickFit, whatever you want to call it. I should think up a name. That might make it a lot more fun.
Switching gears now. I have a 45 minute, one way, drive to work. So I listen to Podcasts. The one I started with was The Wodcast Poscast Love it! They are funny and crude and it appeals to my dark side. I have recently stumbled upon Girls Gone WOD and it took me a few episodes to get into it but I'm really liking it now. Go check them out, you won't be dissapointed. The epidose I am identifying with a lot at the moment is this one. Cassandra Fiorella talked about how you don't need a lot of fancy equipment to get fit. That was how she did it for a while and she looks like a total bad ass.
Not being able to afford to go to CrossFit all the time makes feel more determined. Like I can do this even though I don't have all the CrossFit equipment and I have to go to a normal gym. Grrrr! In fact it makes me think of Katy Perry's song Roar.
